Between October 13 and 17, Peace Connect took place, the global gathering organized by Peace Direct in Nairobi, bringing together more than a hundred peacebuilders, activists, and allies from around the world.
Over five days, the event promoted dialogue, collective learning, and the creation of alliances to redefine how peace is built and civil society is strengthened from the Global South.
In this context, our Executive Director, Guillermo Correa co-facilitated, together with Cooperation Canada and the International Civil Society Centre (ICSC), a workshop as part of the program “Reimagining the Future of Civil Society,” focused on legitimacy, sustainability, and collaboration.
This initiative, led by the Global South, starts from the recognition that civil society is going through a critical moment:
In the face of this scenario, the need arises to imagine new ways of working, connecting, and sustaining our collective impact. With the aim of designing a new model rooted in the Global South, the initiative seeks to rebuild legitimacy and trust in civil society; strengthen sustainability through new local and innovative financing models; and promote cross-sector collaboration among civil society, philanthropy, businesses, and academia.
It is not about defending the old system, but about designing what comes next. About stopping the adaptation of external models to create our own solutions.
